Welcome!

Hello and welcome to Hyperdriver!

This is a blog about Android Netrunner: a game set in a cyberpunk universe that pits cybernetically enhanced hackers against monolithic megacorporations in an attempt to either steal or protect vital information. I have started this blog as a place to record my experiences and thoughts about this game and why it became a mild major obsession for me over the last year and a half. Both from a theme and mechanical perspective this game excites me like few others, but more important than that have been the amazing experiences and new friends I have made along the way. I have been involved in many competitive activities over the years, but Netrunner has the unique distinction of marrying intense competition with an incredibly friendly and welcoming community. There is really nothing else like it, and I am sure anyone that has every played this game will tell you the same thing.

I hope for this blog to fill a bit of a gap in the Netrunner community. At present there are many blogs, podcasts, and youtube videos dedicated to helping players new and old become better at the game (many of which I will provide links to). While you might find some things here and there to help new players along, that is not my primary focus - I am not good enough at this game to offer such advice. Instead, I want this to be a compendium of fun experiences, neat interactions, and general gushing about why this game is such fun to play. This game tells fabulous stories, both through the theme of the game and from real life, and I intend to share some of mine here. This is a blog that doesn't aim to make you better at the game, but more excited to play it.

I'd like it to offer something for everyone: for non-players, I want it to show you why you need this game in your life. For new players, I want it to show why you should dig deeper and leave the kitchen table to jump into weekly meetups, GNKs, and tournaments. For older players, I want it to remind you of why you play the game and offer you a space to share your experiences with others. This is a feel good blog and, hopefully, my puppyish enthusiasm for this game and its community will rub off on you.

I am aware that getting into this game can be incredibly daunting. I was a new player myself just over a year and a half ago and also initially found myself overwhelmed by the large cardpool and obtuse jargon. It can be a little scary to dive into, and especially scary to dive into competitive play. It is my hope that you will see from my experiences that not only is it well worth the investment to learn the game, but it is also incredibly rewarding to take it a step further and join one of the greatest communities in gaming.

So welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay here, and keep coming back regularly to check out new content. :)
